Technology does not only make our lives easier, but its advancement is also contributing in many ways to how we imagine, think, and perceive. Education is one of the prominent fields that has benefited the most from innovations.

Reshaping the future of education has to start with shaping the structure of the current educational system. Recently, the excitement to integrate both technology and education has become widespread.

Here let us look into how the advancement in technology is going to reflect in education.

Learning Spaces

One of the most significant changes that one can see in education is how open it has become now. In the past, school systems have been predominantly confined to classrooms, especially closed ones. Today, the idea of open classrooms is a concept that enriches the learning experience of students.

But instead of the failed open educational models of the 1960s and 70s with physical openness, the present-day ideas revolve around expanding the learning spaces and resources.

Students can now seek guidance on almost every aspect online, whether it is to collaborate with another student or to get help with a critical analysis essay or any other assignment. Technology has made it possible for students to enhance their learning potential.

Edtech has allowed to include more flexible spaces to interact and integrate activities into the curriculum. It has helped to expand the horizons of studying beyond boundaries enabling access for thousands of students across the globe.

Learning Interfaces

Another one of the promising scopes of edtech is how it has changed and influenced the learning interfaces. Augmented reality and virtual reality play a big role in this. In 2018, NYC Media Lab came up with the XR Startup Bootcamp that encourages startups to contribute to different industries using technology.

spARk is a pitch that emerged from outstanding possibilities put forward by a team at Columbia University. The program has further developed many exciting elements that AR and VR can bring into schools and colleges.

The VR tech makes it easier for students to learn difficult concepts, from elementary school level to how medical students prepare for surgeries.

AR is particularly useful in tackling concepts that are hard to visualize by focusing on discovery-based mobile learning. More and more gaming companies are now expanding to education as an industry with numerous possibilities that can revolutionize the way people learn.

Adaptive Learning

The existing models require students to learn skills at the same pace. However, more schools are consciously encouraging adaptive or individual training concepts. Thus, students receive tailored study plans depending on their skills, interests, and opportunities.

There are technologies on the rise that can develop learning software based on student skills. Adaptive learning software such as DreamBox and Knewton has already partnered with schools to collaborate on course designs.

The idea works well with personalized strategies and models, such as the Harvard Student Individual Success Plan. It could soon replace textbooks and how students address their learning.

5G

While we look at different areas where education is going to be influenced, it is also necessary to look at which technologies could be the most significant contributors in the future.

5G promises to be the next big thing in wireless technology networks. While experts haven't specifically targeted a particular field of improvement in education using 5G, the concept still looks highly potential.

5G does not only target the learning environments in schools and colleges. It also enables the efficiency of technical professionals. Many areas of the study and industries such as aviation will benefit from 5G.

With increased speed, 5G could allow students to learn from holographs or even have a holographic teacher running the classroom. It could also provide a better virtual reality experience helping students with better engagement and reducing the gaps in gaining knowledge globally.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is a touted word in almost every industry, including education. Advancements in AI can impact every aspect of future learning. Whether it is about enhancing the teaching methods or studying environments, the perspectives are promising.

That is why there is a dedicated sub-domain called AIED, or AI in Education. It defines a collection of tools that help gain a more in-depth understanding of how we perceive and receive training. It does not only concern academic requirements but also the physical, cultural, and socio-economic contexts of education.

Digital assistants have become universal in every field. They provide smarter solutions by working along with adaptive learning systems to deliver the better user experience.

Wrapping Up

The future of education is susceptible to many global variables. Advanced technologies can undoubtedly influence and improve the experience of both teaching and learning. But it would come down to the policies we craft while considering the potentiality of new technologies.

Anyway, to say the least, the future indeed looks bright for edtech.
