"The Last of Us" is one of the closest experiences you'll have, at least on virtual reality, with "Walking Dead"-ish situations. And now, the buzz is that a sequel to the game may be in the works and released in the near future.

Looks like fans can't get enough of those zombies.

The voice behind "Uncharted's" Nathan Drake, Nolan North, had revealed that Naughty Dog is making a "Last of Us 2" - a fact that has been described by Game Rant as a "no-brainer."

"The fact that North is aware of it seems to insinuate that Naughty Dog discussed it with him at some point (despite his character not surviving the first game), so development may be further along than what Naughty Dog would have us believe," the gaming news portal said in a piece published months ago.

It can also be recalled that a developer's LinkedIn profile revealed he worked at least a month on part 2, affirming rumors of a sequel to the title.

It's also possible, though, that they'll scrap whatever work they have done on the game altogether.

However, considering Naughty Dog is focusing on "Uncharted 4" right now, as the game has been set for a 2016 release, it appears fans may only be able to get official news or updates on "The Last of Us 2" starting 2017. The game's release may even go farther than that, so don't expect another round of post-apocalyptic adventures in the next two years, at least.

Despite the lack of confirmation regarding "The Last of Us 2," despite Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann's revelation that he and game director Bruce Straley had brainstormed ideas for the title, reports on the alleged sequel's plot have already started making the rounds on cybersphere.

"It is speculated that by the end of the game, Joel, who is the main character, will be killed while Ellie will go on some kind of adventure and she will be all alone," Movie News Guide said. "Meanwhile, according to reports, most of the fans don't want to see Joel again in case the new game has the same characters."

Last month, Naughty Dog appeared to have "accidentally confirmed" the creation of "TLOU 2" during a livestream meant to discuss the Nathan Drake Collection.

Writer Josh Scherr, in a video clip that revealed the blunder, revealed "how flustered Scherr becomes, repeating himself several times and tripping over his words, it certainly seems like he realises he's slipped up," IGN noted.
