There are talks that the Apple iPad Air 3 will be released in October 2015, just one month after the iPad Pro was unveiled. According to some users, the iPad Air 3 might feature more powerful specifications and features than the largest Apple tablet, which may also explain why its introduction was delayed.
There were also other rumors that Apple may be fully dropping the 9.7-inch tablet and focus on the bigger iPad Pro instead. The talks began after Fubon Bank analyst Liaoxian Yi, via Economic Daily News, stated that the Cupertino-based company may have postponed the iPad Air 3 launch to 2016, to give way to the iPad Pro and prevent the former from cannibalizing potential sales. The two tablets are closer in terms of size and there could be supply problems if manufacturers work on three Apple tablets at the same time, Yibada wrote. IT Pro stated that suppliers have been tasked to focus on the iPad Pro and iPad Mini 4 first. The objective of the company is to maximize sales from the two tablets before introducing another one.
IT Pro wrote that the iPad Air 3 may be powered by the A9 or A9X processor, 2GB or 4GB of RAM, a 9.7-inch Retina display with 4K resolution, 401 ppi and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The device may also run on the iOS 9, have 16GB, 64GB or 128GB of internal memory, an 8-megapixel iSight rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front camera. The features are quite similar to the iPad Pro, except for the smaller screen panel. It will most likely be priced at $499.
There are rumors that the iPad Air 3 will be thinner than the iPad Air 2. There might be a smaller battery pack, allowing the device to be only around 5mm thick. There may also be dustproofing and waterproofing features. Other rumors suggested that the upcoming device may be bigger at 12 inches. Since it is the seventh iPad model to launch from the company, it may also be referred to as the iPad 7. The tablet will allegedly launch in the first quarter of 2016. Apple might make an announcement in their future events.
The iPad Pro, on the other hand, has a 12.9-inch screen with a resolution of 2732 x 2048. It has an A9X chip and is said to have a 10-hour battery life. The tablet also has a pressure-sensitive stylus and other high-end accessories, CNet wrote.
More news and details about the iPad Air 3 are expected in the following weeks.
