The iPhone 7 and the new iPad have been rumored to be featured in this week's Apple media event. Will the 2016 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro make an appearance too?
It's possible that the Cupertino-based company may unveil both devices on top of their best-selling product and the new iPad Air version in order to give the brand a big buzz that will overshadow competitors unveiling their own products close to the media event schedule.
However, considering that Apple just launched the MacBook April this year, it is also possible the new MacBook Air model's announcement may be moved to 2016. The company has not confirmed or made prior announcements regarding their upcoming releases, so these reports remain unconfirmed.
Despite the vague release timeline, it appears that a new MacBook Air may be just around the corner as this year's iteration had been subjected to markdowns - typically a sign that a newer model is coming.
"The new model is expected to improve on the features that did not work out quite as well as its 2015 counterpart. It may also come with a Touch ID feature and incorporate the Force Touch technology to the trackpad similar to the MacBook Pro," VineReport said. "Eager fans can also expect the 2016 edition to have better display and be more lightweight and thinner at 11.5 mm."
The 2016 MacBook Air will also be reportedly equipped with Skylake processors - the latest in Intel's line of CPUs.
"The 2.3GHz i5-6200U and the 2.4GHz i5-6300U chips are appropriate for the lower-end MacBook Air models, while the 2.5GHz i7-6500U and the 2.6GHz i7-6600U would be used in the higher-end MacBook Air models. All four chips include Intel HD 520 graphics," MacRumors noted.
"It is not clear when Intel plans to release the Skylake chips appropriate for the MacBook Air, but with full specs now available, it seems launch is imminent," the site added.
Both MacBooks will allegedly operate on OS X El Capitan and have longer battery life. As with the 12-inch MacBook, it's been also reported that the upcoming MacBook Pro and Air versions will haveUSB Type-C ports.
"The new generations of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro will reportedly come with the usual 13 and 15-inch screen displays. There are whispers that MacBook Air will finally drop its 11-inch variant as Apple MacBook and upcoming iPad Pro provides 12-inch screens," Yibada said.
