The making of "Kingdom Hearts 3" began nearly a decade ago and the title still remains unreleased.

However, it's been hoped that more information will be revealed about the game in the upcoming D23 Expo, described by the San Diego Union Tribune as the "Comic-Con for Disney geeks."

According to IGN, the Mouse House will showcase "never-before-seen gameplay, trailers, new reveals, and surprises from Disney Interactive's most anticipated games."

"Among the games participating in the presentation are: 'Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition,' 'Star Wars: Battlefront' from Electronic Arts, and 'Kingdom Hearts III' from Square Enix," the site added.

Although the game's trailer had been released in June during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), there have been no announcements regarding the specific release date of the said title.

"Game director Tetsuya Nomura revealed during the E3 2015 that 'Kingdom Hearts 3' will be released early next year, but there was no specific date mentioned as to when the video game will exactly hit the video game shelves," Master Herald noted.

Some fans may remember that a similar promise was made in the last two years and that teasers of the upcoming title had also been release in previous years, but no game has ever seen the light of day just yet. Will 2016 indeed be the year when the game will finally be released?

Nomura had previously explained that the game is being fine-tuned and buffed to a high sheen to ensure that the game is true to HD expectations. It has been developed using Unreal Engine 4, a "complete suite of game development tools made by game developers, for game developers" that boasts of "revolutionary new workflow features and a deep toolset" that enables developers to produce visualizations of a superb quality. As such, it can be expected that the game's art may have a slightly different look.

Based on Nomura's revelation about the shift to UE 4 from Luminous Engine about a year ago, it appears that the game wasn't really as far along in the development process as fans had expected.

"Nomura tried to reassure fans that everything is still on schedule, but says he is currently working on choices for the worlds and outfits," Game Rant noted. "To us, that sounds like 'Kingdom Hearts 3' is still at least two years away."

Hopefully, this time around, the game is indeed ready for release next year. Among the worlds that were mentioned to be part of "Kingdom Hearts 3" is "Tangled" and "Hercules." Donald Duck, Goofy, and Mickey Mouse will also be on the game, as well as Sora, of course.
