Not long after Android 5.0 Lollipop started rolling out on various Android devices, the 5.1 version of the mobile OS began arriving in a number of Android-based gadgets, as well. According to Christian Today, the Moto X 1st generation and 2nd generation 2014 models will reportedly be receiving the update "as early as next week," based on Motorola's recent announcement regarding the new OS update.

"We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto X (2nd Gen.) by Motorola," the smartphone maker said on its official site. "This update brings AndroidTM 5.1 Lollipop to your phone along with other improvements."

It is worth noting that no details about the regions that will first get this update has been given. Media sources, however, peg the Android Lollipop 5.1's arrival in Europe in the middle of this month.

"The original Moto X is also up for an Android 5.1 Lollipop update. However, only those who live in Brazil are entitled to the software makeover," Christian Today went on to say. "Users in the U.S. who rock this device will be able to update at a later but still undisclosed date."

"Customers of different U.S. carriers can expect a rollout in the offing as well," it added.

Meanwhile, Australian communications carrier announced that the 5.1 update will be coming to the Sony Xperia Z series - Z, Z1, and Z1 Compact - in August.

"Telstra says that a test submission was received on 1 May but that a 'showstopper issue' was identified. A new submission is now expected on 10 July," Xperia Blog said.

"ShowStopper (aka blocker) is bug that hinders or stops from continuing or running your test scripts (in this case applications of the smartphone), you cannot proceed to the next level," International Business Times explained.

The latest OS version is an essential upgrade for Lollipop as it is expected to "fix some of the most nagging bugs such as, Wi-Fi tethering issue, Bluetooth connectivity, CPU wake-locks, which result in heavy draining of battery, Chrome crash during launch, deletion of SMSs when SIM memory gets exhausted and many more."

Considering what the update entails, this is a significant reason for Android users' anticipation in the 5.1 rollout.

If you want to be proactive and check whether the update has arrived on your device, go to the settings of your gadget and see whether Android Lollipop 5.1 is ready for installing.
