Ubisoft debuted a sneak peek of the latest installment of its highly-successful "Assassin's Creed" franchise.
The gameplay trailer for "Assassin's Creed: Unity" is set in Revolutionary France, which was a stunning sight to behold, the Huffington Post said.
Built solely for PS4 and Xbox One, "Assassin's Creed: Unity" will let players join up with three others to play in the main story campaign. On the other hand, the trailer does not clarify whether players would be able to finish the entire campaign with other people or whether it's just only available in certain parts. On the other hand, the new gameplay trailer seemed to assure the fact that the latest "Assassin's Creed" installment will be as smooth-running just like any other single-player campaign.
"Assassin's Creed: Unity" debuted a new assassin named Arno, who will be facing off the Templars after the death of his father, Mirror UK said. Players who will be using the Arno character can choose any from a plethora of weapons, gear, outfits and specialized skills from the character menu needed for him to fulfill his duties as a master assassin. Players will also need to blend into a very chaotic France in 1793, which is full of factions with different motivations or people to track down and take care of. Moreover, people in this era are somewhat a murderous sort of bunch, ranging from the loyalists, moderates and revolutionaries, all with noblemen and commoners in their ranks. Players will also get the chance to meet the popular figures in French history, including original sexual sadist the Marquis de Sade, King Louis XVI, short but fearsome warmonger Napoléon, Robespierre and the original leader of the revolution, Mirabeau.
The British tabloid also commends Ubisoft's latest offering in terms of the look and feel of the video. For one, a player sitting on a bench can see different people fighting at several angles or merchants who disregard the fights and try to go about their business setting up shops. Moreover, combats in "Assassin's Creed: Unity" are more complex than ever, as a new system in place was created for you to be able to properly deal with more than one attacker. It has been observed that the video game developers wanted to bring back stealth.
The popular landmarks during the French Revolution are impressive at best. It has been reported that to recreate the famous Notre Dame cathedral, one staff member worked on the recreation of the 1:1 scale of the church alone for eight months.
On the other hand, these observations have been somewhat overshadowed by the fact that there is a lack of female characters in "Assassin's Creed: Unity." Ubisoft said in a statement to GameSpot, "We recognize the valid concern around diversity in video game narrative. Assassin's Creed Unity is focused on the story of the lead character, Arno. Whether playing by yourself or with the co-op Shared Experiences, you the gamer will always be playing as Arno, complete with his broad range of gear and skill sets that will make you feel unique. With regard to diversity in our playable Assassins, we've featured Aveline, Connor, Adewale and Altair in Assassin's Creed games and we continue to look at showcasing diverse characters. We look forward to introducing you to some of the strong female characters in Assassin's Creed Unity."
"Assassin's Creed: Unity" is set to debut on October 28.
