Grand Theft Auto 5 is less than two weeks away from being released on Sept 17. The game will initially only have the single player offline mode available at launch, as the online multiplayer component will be delayed slightly until Oct. 1, to make sure the version is completed. However, IGN has gotten a hold of an extensive demo of the single player version of the game, which reveals several missions.

The first thing noted in the demo is the fact that vehicles in the game respond much better than those found in Grand Theft Auto 4, allowing players to move through traffic easier than ever before. Players can also pick out their favorite vehicles and store them in their own garage, but if the vehicle is damaged or destroyed they must pay a fee from the impound lot to recover it.

Once players get to their destination, players can choose their weapon though the new weapon wheel. Users open up the wheel, which reveals several subcategories of weapons. From there, users pick the category of weapons they want and sift through the weapons using the D-pad. Once users start causing destruction with their chosen weapon, the police will be quick to arrive. However, instead of face-to-face confrontations, the police are more likely in Grand Theft Auto 5 to shoot at users from afar. Civilian response to the action of the player is also more varied, as some potential carjacking victims will try to run the player down rather than submit.

While some missions will ask players to use all three of the playable protagonists in the game all at once, some will only feature one character. One mission seen has Franklin attempt to recover a motorcycle for a car dealer. Players will be able to find unique encounters with civilians during the missions, and the game will prompt users to complete certain actions that lead to cinematic sequences. However, when players do get missions with all three playable characters, at certain times the game will indicate that the user should switch characters to experience a unique sequence. A color flashes for each character (Michael is blue, Franklin is green, and Trevor is orange) will show who is having their big moment during the mission.
