Gamescom 2013 provided a brand new chapter in the console war between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, despite the fact that both consoles haven't been released yet. During Gamescom Sony called out the Xbox One and the frequent flip-flopping of the console, and then Microsoft responded in kind. Now, with both console makers having delivered their presentations at the biggest annual video game show in Europe, which company had a better Gamescom 2013?

Sony appeared like the winner in the Gamescom round of the new console war, simply because the company has revealed that the PlayStation 4 will launch Nov. 15. In addition, the main focus on the company's press conference was the slew of indie games that will be appearing on the PlayStation 4 and Vita. Games such as Rime, Murasaki Baby and N++ will all showcase how indie developers can unlock their full potential developing for Sony's line of consoles. However, the company failed to show off any big new blockbuster titles at the event, and the footage of existing games for the console were for the most part third party games such as Assassin's Creed 4 and Watch Dogs. They hinted at new titles from Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, and Sony Santa Monica, but failed to elaborate, so it may be awhile before we see big exclusives such as Uncharted 4 or a new God of War.

On the other hand, Microsoft had several exclusives at Gamescom, revealing new footage from several, most notably a demo of Titanfall that has wowed just about everyone. Also announced at Gamescom, Fable Legends impressed expo attendants. The game will feature four player co-op on the Xbox One, with a fifth player able to use a Microsoft Smartglass device to act as a Dungeon Master-style player in charge of creating as much difficulty for the other four players as possible. Plus, Microsoft revealed a host of exclusive content and deals they will have on future titles coming to both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The amount of ground that Microsoft has gained on the competition is amazing, and now the previous errors made at E3 have been wiped out for the most part.

So which console had a better Gamescom? Both Sony and Microsoft had solid presentations at the European event, but the edge has to go to Microsoft for their focus on the exclusives coming to the console, as well as the special advantages the Xbox One will enjoy over the PlayStation 4. While Sony won over the indie crowd with their presentation, overall the Xbox One has won this round.
