Super Smash Bros. 4 Release Date, News, Character & 5 Things to Know

Super Smash Bros is one of Nintendo's flagship franchises, and fans are eager to find out more about the games as they wait patiently for both the Wii U and 3DS Super Smash Bros versions, which are set for a 2014 release window. Nintendo's official website for the game has released a steady trickle of information about the games, so curious gamers should check out their daily updates about the games. To help both old and new fans of the series get more excited for the releases, we bring you the top five things to know about the new Super Smash Bros:

5. The Wii U and 3DS Games will be quite different- Besides the obvious technical differences for each game, the two games are separate entities in the series, and will not feature cross-platform play. Each Super Smash Bros title will have unique stages that are custom made for each platform. However, the games will connect by having customizable characters from the 3DS being able to get transferred into the Wii U Super Smash Bros.

4. There Will Be Different Stages For Each Game- IGN has a list of confirmed stages for each game, and so far only one (Battlefield) is confirmed for both consoles. An example of this is the Legend of Zelda stage for each game. The Wii U Smash Bros will have a stage based off of Skyward Sword, while the 3DS will have one based on Spirit Tracks.

3. Expect Major Surprise Characters To be Revealed Early- Mega Man may be the first big surprise character announced for the games, but if any more third party characters are going to be included in the games they will be announced months before the games are launched. After all, fans knew Solid Snake and Sonic were going to be in Super Smash Bros Brawl months before that game was released.

2. Do Not Expect Major Roster Shake Ups- Even though three new characters have been announced for the game (Mega Man, Wii U Fit Trainer, and The Villager from Animal Crossing), and only one returning character, Olimar, has been announced since E3, do not expect Nintendo to ditch old favorites like Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, and Luigi in favor of new characters. While some characters might not make the leap, it is hard to imagine Nintendo revamping the roster to an extreme degree.

Get Ready For More Customization- As mentioned above, there will be some customization aspects to the game, so Nintendo may be ready to expand modes such as the Create a Stage mode from Brawl, as well as perhaps adding a character creation mode (possibly using Miis?) While some hardcore fans of the series may not take to this, others may relish the chance to create character skins and create more elaborate stages than before.
