The newest Wii U/3DS Super Smash Bros. title promises to deliver a whole new brawler experience for Nintendo users, mixing old and new characters into the legendary series. Nintendo showed off the game at E3, unveiling several new characters such as The Villager from Animal Crossing, the Wii Fit Trainer, and Mega Man.

Now, Nintendo has confirmed that Captain Olimar from the Pikmin series will be returning to the game along with his fabulous fighting pikmin.

Nintendo announced the news through the official Super Smash Bros. website, and several screenshots of the character in action were released as well. The character first appeared in Brawl, the Wii entry into the Super Smash Bros. series. He primarily uses his pikmin to attack foes, and was capable of dealing out some serious damage with the little plant creatures.

Super Smash Bros. is one of the games that Nintendo hopes will infuse the Wii U with renewed interest. In addition, the series will be coming to handheld platforms for the first time, and the 3DS version of the game will have special levels designed to take advantage of the 3DS' unique technology. The two titles will have special cross-platform features involving character customization; however, Nintendo has failed to elaborate more on this feature. One thing that has been confirmed is that the two versions of the game will not have cross platform play, because the levels for each platform are specially designed for the Wii U or 3DS, but not both.

With the addition of Captain Olimar, fans of the series can look forward to using the veteran character and have him face off against old and new foes alike. Neither version of the new Super Smash Bros. games have a release date set, so check back here for all the latest Super Smash Bros. news.
