One of the more mysterious games shown at E3 this year was D4, the Xbox One exclusive being developed by Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro and Access Games, the developer behind the cult hit Deadly Premonition. IGN has the skinny on D4, or Dark Dreams Don't Die, which will feature the protagonist David trying to solve crimes by being able to go back in time, specifically the murder of his wife "Little Peggy". However, David has lost his memories, giving the game a further twist.

The game is similar to classic point and click adventure games with David having to interact with various NPC's and objects throughout the game's many levels. Players will have many different options for interacting with characters, and then the game's action sequences will be affected based on well they question characters and what objects they interact with.

The game will have Kinect functionality, but will support use of the Xbox One's remote for players who do not wish to use the Kinect. Swery revealed that even with the Kinect in use, the game is designed for players sitting on the couch as the game will feature simple hand-motion gestures for action sequences or the ability to choose dialog options through a simple hand swipe.

The game is planned as an episodic digital only title, with new episodes being released periodically. Each episode will focus on one memory of David's, with the game ultimately focusing David attempting to figure out who murdered his wife.

The game's plot and structure is deliberately opaque and complicated, and even the game's title is a reference to the time traveling nature of the game, as Swery explains:

"(The title) also comes from the fact that the main character's special skill is to go back into the past, so it's the fourth dimension...Also, in the game, 'D', the initial, is going to be a key word, and it's going to have lots of important meanings."

Look out for more D4 news as we get closer to the game's and Xbox One's launch.
