Both Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories are heading to the PlayStation Network next week. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the two games will be heading to the PlayStation Network for $9.99. The games were spinoffs of the popular series that originally appeared on the PlayStation Portable. Later, the games were ported onto the PlayStation 2, and are now finally coming to the current generation console, the PlayStation 3. A previously released downloadable version of both games were released for the PSP Go as well.

The games are both spinoffs from the popular PlayStation 2 titles Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Liberty City is the setting of Grand Theft Auto 3, and Vice City is the clear home of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.  They both featured the open-world gameplay that is the hallmark of the series as a whole, as well as the memorable locations and characters of both games. The games are also both prequels to their respective titles.

The move to put Liberty City/Vice City Stories onto the PlayStation Network is not very surprising. Rockstar Games has been releasing a steady stream of older titles for download, including the original Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City, as well as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Rockstar has also hinted that more classic Grand Theft Auto games are on their way to downloadable platforms, though what games will become available remains a mystery still.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories was first released on the PlayStation Portable in 2005, with Vice City Stories following the next year. Both game's were well received by the public and critics, selling millions of copies apiece.  Both games should be must-buys for fans of the original games, as well as those desperate to get a fix of open-world mayhem before Grand Theft Auto 5 hits the shelves on September 17.
