Insomniac, the creative giants behind the Ratchet and Clank and Resistance series, have trademarked a name, possibly for a game currently in development.

Some users over at the NeoGAF  forums have stumbled upon some interesting information as it appears as though the domain name sunsetoverdrive.com is currently registered to one Ryan Schneider. The current Director of Marketing for Insomniac is also named Ryan Schneider. Coincidence? Probably not, especially after Insomniac released a statement to IGN  concerning the news.

The company has said about the information that:

"We're an idea factory and we submit for TM (Trade Mark) pretty regularly. There's nothing to announce, but thanks for checking in."

Insomniac admits that they like to trademark things frequently, but also points out there is nothing too spectacular about the information. Sunset Overdrive could be a new game being developed for current or next-gen systems, part of Click, the studios social game division, or it could be that Schneider trademarked the domain name for a personal project. After all, it is trademarked to him, not the studio.

With nothing definitive from Insomniac, and no actual website to look into, gamers do not have much to look forward to with this news. While Insomniac is one of the finer studios out there, there is very little to obtain from the name, besides that it may involve sunsets going into overdrive (feel free to play with that in your heads).

Only time will tell if this becomes something real, or it is merely an idea of Insomniac's at this point. We will keep a watchful eye in the coming months to see what develops come from this news.  In the meantime, gamers should look out for the studios latest game, Fuse, coming out later this year.
