Free PlayStation Plus, Xbox Live Gold Games for September Revealed

Both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold offer members free games every month, and now Sony and Microsoft have revealed what games they will be offering users for the month of September.

Though Microsoft has not officially revealed what games they will be offering in September, a leak from Reddit user The Gesio has shown that the first game they will offer is Magic: The Gathering 2013. This card playing game has its fair share of fans, but this is hardly a blockbuster game, so some users may be disappointed with the news. However, the second game available in the latter half of September for Xbox Live Gold users has yet to be revealed, so perhaps that game will be a bigger title for users to get excited over.

Meanwhile, several big games are available for PlayStation Plus owners in September, according to IGN. One of the biggest is Resident Evil Chronicles HD Collection, which combines the Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles in one package, and now it is free for a limited time. These shooter games expand the story of the Resident Evil series and offer a fun gameplay change for users to try out. Another big title available for free in September is ICO HD. This remake of the PlayStation 2 classic was recently bundled with another Team ICO masterpiece, Shadow of the Colossus, but PlayStation Plus users can try out the game for free now. A handheld spinoff of the popular Grand Theft Auto series, Liberty City Stories, is part of the free games package, along with the Vita title Rayman Origins. Finally, Galaga Legions DX, a PlayStation Network title, is also free for PlayStation Plus owners to check out. There are several solid choices for users to try out in September for free, and users should definitely check out the games and see for themselves the quality of the games presented here.

Both Sony and Microsoft are trying to win over gamers by offering free games to users, but so far Microsoft has been playing catch up to Sony in that regard. By offering fewer games per month, as well as only offering one at a time, Microsoft has not yet reached the level that Sony has for their similar free games service.  Perhaps when the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are released Microsoft will shift this service into a new level, so that more users are able to take advantage of the free games offered.
