Comoros: The Forgotten Island
Aug 25, 2020 05:13 PM EDT
The Union of the Comoros is an island country located in the south east of Africa. It gained independence in 1975. Its population is about 850,000.
There are 2 ethnic groups in Comoros:
- 86% Afro-Arab (mostly Muslims).
- 14% Malagasy.
Comoros president is Azali Assoumani who came into office in 2016. He is a member of a political party called Convention for the Renewal of the Comoros.
Comoros is among the list of the poorest countries in the world as GDP Per Capita. People there suffer from poverty and the medical system is not that good. One of their traditions in called the Grand Marriage where a man is supposed to make another wedding party that costs a lot. This tradition makes no sense since people there are very poor already.
It seems that there is a lot of corruption in the government just like other African countries. Greed and thirst for power have poisoned a lot of hearts unfortunately to a degree that some people's behavior has become inhumane.
I believe that people deserve to have a good life out of their country's resources instead of dwelling in houses that are too small to have room for all members of the family. I personally encourage business people to consider investing in Comoros because it will be both beneficial for them and for the economy there. I also encourage people who like to do charity not to forget about people of Comoros as they need help and deserve it.
