Sony executives have been very active discussing the PlayStation 4 after the console's release date was revealed at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. One Sony executive has revealed how many users have preordered the PlayStation 4, and another has discussed the price of the console as well.

Fergal Gara, the United Kingdom managing director for Sony, confirmed to Gamespot that the console has had huge success with preorders, and Gara stated that the company is very pleased with the numbers of preorders coming in:

"We are not seeking to accelerate our preorders any further, to be honest. (PS4 preorders) are breathtakingly high as they are right now...We do not have a preorder problem."

It was discussed during Sony's Gamescom press conference that worldwide one million PlayStation 4's have been preordered, so it looks as though Sony will have abug hit on their hands when the console is released on November 15.

Meanwhile, Sony Computer Entertainment America President Jack Tretton was interviewed by Bloomberg about the PlayStation 4, and he revealed his thoughts on the console, specifically about the console's price. He revealed that he was pleased when he found out the Xbox One would retail for $500, one hundred dollars less than the PlayStation 4:

"I think ultimately, the gamer looks at ten-year product lifecycles; they look at the software offerings; they look at the value proposition...And the lowest priced system isn't always the most successful, but being cheaper than your competition is never a bad thing."

Tretton also discussed the upcoming launch of the PlayStation 4, noting that it is now up to Sony to deliver for the fans and developers that have bought into the next-gen console:

"I feel like we've got the gamer on our side; I feel like we've got the development community on our side; and now we've got execute...The most important thing to get right is the consumer proposition, the value proposition ...That people say, 'I saw it, it looks great, I've got to have it.' And if that's the answer, then you've got a winner on your hands."

The PlayStation 4 has had a strong showing at E3 and Gamescom, and Sony has another chance to wow gamers before the release of the console at the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place September 19-22. Look out for more PlayStation 4 news as the countdown to the PlayStation 4 begins and gamers get ready to experience the next-gen consoles for themselves in November.
