Why Did George Karl Wear DeMarcus Cousins' Jersey? Find Out Here!

Was Sacramento Kings head coach George Karl trying to make a statement at a Positive Coaching Alliance event recently by sporting a DeMarcus Cousins jersey?

The much publicized rift between Karl and resident star DeMarcus Cousins has long been under the radar though both have shot them down and claim that all is well between them.

George Karl and DeMarcus Cousins didn’t exactly hit it off well at first, reaching a point where Karl contemplated on possibly placing the Kings star forward on the trading block.

Had it not for the intervention of team owner Vivek Ranadive, Cousins would have been with another ballclub by now. Among the teams that showed interest in Cousins are the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers, two teams aching to rebound and rekindle their rich winning history.

Between the two, Ranadive hinted that he would rather fire Karl than give up Cousins. So in all, if Karl had wanted to stay on with the Kings, he had to make things work. Could this Cousins’ jersey wearing be part of that?

Wearing the jersey could indicate a lot of things. It could indicate that Karl is making a statement that all is well between him and Cousins and that by wearing the player’s jersey, all the negative beef that came up months ago is long gone.

That would be somehow in line with the intent of the meeting, apparently signifying that even when the odds are not in his favour, coaches should find a way to make things work.

Cousins is of course the face of the franchise but what if Cousins ended up simply wearing a jersey with no number or something that had ‘Coach’ at the back? Anyway and regardless of the things behind the jersey, the immediate belief is of course that there is no actual beef between the two.

Karl had already bared that he had reached out to Cousins before though that awkward handshake seen in the Summer League somehow makes folks believe that all is not still entirely well between the two. It could be a casual relationship for now so much of how this partnership will work out could more or less be seen when the NBA opens shop this October.

Both Cousins and Karl have reputations to protect. Their relationship may not be perfect for now though one has to consider the benefits a smooth-running relationship would bring for the Kings. Will that be the scenario once the Kings take the floor for the 2015-16 NBA season? Stay tuned!
