Jordan Clarkson's Lakers Contract Guaranteed? Details Here!
For many who have followed the plight of the Los Angeles Lakers last year, Jordan Clarkson will be a player that comes into mind.
Never mind that he was the 46th overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft, a virtual unknown that had many thinking what makes Clarkson so special. The immediate impression from hoop junkies is that this guy from Missouri is just another face that could probably come out of the bench and be fine with spare minutes.
But Clarkson proved why he was pursued by the purple and gold. And after some guidance and self training, a late pick suddenly makes waves and goes as far as making the 2015 NBA All Rookie First team.
The opportunities simply came Clarkson’s way. He found the road rough, especially with all the focus on Kobe Bryant and a rookie picked ahead of him, Julius Randle.
There was of course Jeremy Lin and Nick Young who he would have to battle minutes with but in the end, Clarkson was simply destined to be given the chance to prove his worth.
Once injuries plagued the Lakers five, the team had no choice but to make do with the manpower they had. Clarkson didn’t hit it off immediately though but as the season progressed, Clarkson worked his way up patiently and all that eventually rendered positive results.
Though their campaign was one of the Lakers’ worst in team history, it was a fact that Clarkson is a player that the team had to keep.
Heading into the coming season, the Lakers are expected to retain Clarkson this coming Saturday (August 1).
Saturday is the deadline for the Lakers to cut the sophomore but as everyone probably figured out by now, that is not going to happen.
Clarkson stands to receive $845,059 for the 2015-16 NBA season, though that is non-guaranteed. And looking ahead and seeing how he performed in the NBA Summer League, it will not be surprising as well to see Clarkson getting a guaranteed contract next.
With that evidently a given, it would eventually show 14 Lakers with guaranteed contract.
Only two players will be left with non-guaranteed contracts at that point – Tarik Black and Jabari Brown.
As far as the coming season is concerned, Clarkson could be moving to a position where he is more comfortable at – shooting guard.
With rookie D’Angelo Russel in the fold, the Lakers are expected to make some adjustments for the five on the floor.
Kobe Bryant, playing mostly shooting guard throughout his career, will reportedly be playing the small forward position.
With those adjustments, it will be interesting to see how the Lakers will look on the court in the coming season.
