NBA Trade Rumors: Klay Thompson & David Lee Traded for Kevin Love?
The Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves are ironing out a deal for Kevin Love, which supposedly involves a trade for Klay Thompson and David Lee too.
In a report by Yahoo! Sports, shooting guard Kevin Martin and power forward Love of the Wolves are proposed to be traded for power forward David Lee and shooting guard Thompson. The deal is not final, however. An insider said that the deal is still ongoing and both teams are still making the necessary adjustments with more to come at any time.
One of the priorities of Minnesota in trade talks is to acquire a first-round pick from the Golden State Warriors. According to ESPN, the Timberwolves are still determining whether it is worth the risk to give up their current star Love for younger prospects as well as Lee, who has been quite consistent in the previous season. Since Golden State does not have a first round pick in the upcoming draft late in July 2014, the most viable exchange may be Love and Martin for Thompson, Lee and a first round draft pick.
Offering Thompson puts Golden State at an advantage in acquiring Kevin Love, considering how other NBA teams are also eyeing the scoring machine. The Warriors were not interested in Thompson at first but have reconsidered and are now including him in the proposals. Thompson is a good three-point shooter and is above average in defense. Thompson's father, Mychal Thompson, was the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA and currently works as a radio analyst on broadcasts for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Other teams such as the Bolton Celtics and Denver Nuggets are also trying to sort out deals with Minnesota for Love. Denver reportedly presented Wilson Chandler, Kenneth Faried and a No. 11 pick for Love and Martin. Boston, on the other hand, was interested in offering their two first-round picks, No. 6 and No. 17 and one player for Love.
In an article on SB Nation, the Warriors are eager to acquire Love and aim to have him play with their star guard Stephen Curry. There were also talks that Lee and Harrison Barnes were the initial offers for Love. However, to make the Timberwolves succumb, they would need to offer more such as Andrew Bogut or Thompson. Certainly, a deal involving Curry is not available. Flip Saunders, the new coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, will have to make major adjustments upon releasing their key player.
