LeBron James Trade Rumors: LBJ to Boycott 2014-15 Season If Sterling Stays?
After scoring 49 points against the Brooklyn Nets in Game 4 to cause the Miami Heat to lead the series 3-1, LeBron James shared his bigger plans for the game of basketball and the future of the NBA, according to a Sports Illustrated report.
James expressed early on that he wanted things to be straightened out in the NBA and that no one in the Sterling family should own the team, even after Donald exits. The NBA has already been preparing for a lengthy lawsuit. Donald Sterling has been discussing matters with his lawyers and it is only expected that he will be battling the NBA in court to try and keep control over the Los Angeles Clippers.
Sterling said that he did not want to bring a giant lawsuit. He said, "I don't think that's the answer. I think the answer is, the league is a good league, all honest people. And I think that whatever they decided that has to be done, I think I should work with them and do it." Sterling was banned for life and fined by Adam Silver, NBA commissioner.
Particularly, LeBron James and other team leaders were also adamant in wanting to keep the Sterlings out of the league for good. Shelly Sterling, wife of Donald, has been showing interest in changing her status into a controlling team owner. News also circulated that players were prepared to boycott games as early as during the playoffs if the initial punishment for Sterling is unsatisfactory for them.
Roger Mason Jr., vice president of the NBPA said that if the situation is not handled by the start of the 2014-2015 season, many players said that they might not be playing. According to USA Today, he shared that LeBron told him in the locker room that he will not be playing if Sterling remains as an NBA team owner. He added that other players also voiced out the same sentiments that there is no place for the Sterling family in the NBA.
