NBA Playoffs 2014 Bracket & Standings: Clippers vs. Thunder Game 4 Recap
After trailing the OKC Thunder by 22 points, the Los Angeles Clippers clawed back to win 101-99 to tie the series 2-2 on May 11. Game 5 will be played in Oklahoma City on May 13.
The Clippers was led in scoring by power forward Blake Griffin, who scored 25 points. Jamal Crawford had 18 points. Darren Collison added 12 points in the fourth quarter to give the team the final boost to win. On the other hand, recently crowned MVP Kevin Durant scored 40 points despite the loss, based on an article by Bleacher Report.
In the fourth quarter, the Clippers were still trailing by 16 points. During the first quarter, they shot only 25% from the field. They only took the lead from OKC with 58 seconds left on the clock. With 32 seconds left, the Clippers led by four points. Westbrook cut the lead back to two with 28 seconds left. In the final two seconds, Westbrook attempted a three-point shot but missed. Ibaka rebounded and attempted a shot to push the game to overtime but the clock was dead.
Westbrook scored 27 points for OKC. He said after the game, "It was a good look. Just didn't go in." in an ESPN report.
LA Times reported that the combined efforts of Collison, Griffin and Chris Paul in the final quarter can be credited for their victory. Griffin and Paul scored 10 points each in the last quarter. Paul said, "This is one of the best ones yet. We got off to a very slow start. Even there in the fourth quarter, we could have relaxed, you know, gave in at any point. I think we just willed this one. It's a really good team. We found a way."
Paul commended Collison by saying, "Darren Collison was amazing today. If you see us during the game, probably saw me going nuts on him a couple times there at the end."
