NBA’s ‘We Are One’ Commercial Debuts Hours After Sterling Ban [Watch Video Here]
Just a few hours after Adam Silver declared that Donald Sterling was banned for life from the NBA, the league's marketers immediately got busy creating the "We Are One" advertisement which first aired on April 29, 2014.
The commercial showed captivating moments of teams huddling and putting their hands together. It was made to show the cohesiveness of the entire NBA after the parting of team owner Sterling from the NBA for being proven to have given racist comments.
The commercial provided captions which stated, "On a team, ME becomes WE. We stand together. We strive together. We win together. We are a team. And this is our time." The advertisement ends displaying a giant official logo of the NBA with the last caption, "We Are One," in a report by USA Today. The final image of the "We Are One" ad features the Los Angeles Clippers.
The LA team, after wearing their shirts inside out and throwing them in a big heap on the court before playing against the Golden State Warriors, also came up with their own video. On April 29, they played the video at Staples Center before leading the series 3-2. The song "Not Giving In" played in the background and captions started to appear together with several great plays by the Clippers. The video stated, "To our team. We share your heart. Your spirit. Your courage. We stand with you. We Are One."
According to a Fox Sports report, the message "We Are One" was the same as the one that appears on the Los Angeles Clippers' official website. Doc Rivers, coach of the L.A. Clippers, said that Adam Silver made the right decision in banning and fining Donald Sterling. He shared that the team is not celebrating Sterling's status but instead, show their happiness in the smart resolution.
The Clippers will play against the Warriors for Game 6 after winning 113-103.
Let's watch the ad.
