On April 22, Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs was named Coach of the Year for the third time. The only two other NBA coaches who won the award three times are Pat Riley and Don Nelson.

During the 2013-2014 NBA regular season, he led the Spurs to a 62-20 record, which is the best in the league, plus a 30-11 on the road record, which is the best in the franchise history. From February 26 to April 2, 2014, the Spurs tied for the fifth longest winning streak in NBA history.

For 15 straight seasons, San Antonio has won at least 50 games. The more amazing feats include Popovich changing the starting five 30 times and each player playing less than 30 minutes a game, according to a report by Sports Illustrated.

The final vote totals appeared in a report by CBS Sports:

1. Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs - 380
2. Jeff Hornacek, Phoenix Suns - 339
3. Tom Thibodeau, Chicago Bulls - 159
4. Steve Clifford, Charlotte Bobcats - 127
5. Dwane Casey, Toronto Raptors - 70
6. Terry Stotts, Portland Trail Blazers - 25
7. Doc Rivers, Los Angeles Clippers - 13
8. Scott Brooks, Oklahoma City - 1
9. Mark Jackson, Golden State Warriors - 1
10. Jason Kidd, Brooklyn Nets - 1

Popovich received his award with a straight face as usual. His coaching style is known to be conservative and he is a strong believer in the fundamentals, which is most likely why the San Antonio Spurs might not be the most exciting team in the NBA, but for years, have remained consistent in winning games.

Hornacek ranked high after leading the Phoenix Suns to almost getting into the playoffs. Thibodeau was also a worthy nominee, by bringing the Chicago Bulls to the playoffs despite the absence of stars Derrick Rose and Luol Deng. Coaches of other well-performing teams like Steve Clifford and Scott Brooks also deserved credit, according to Bleacher Report.
