NBA MVP Ladder 2014: Lebron James Beats Kevin Durant in Jersey Sales
After six straight years, Lebron James' jersey is still the best-selling item in the NBA, according to a report by Huffington Post.
On April 17, 2014, the NBA announced that James had the most jerseys sold in the NBA for the sixth straight time. Overall, the Miami Heat also garnered the number one spot in terms of best-selling team merchandise. Dwyane Wade's jersey is also among the most popular in the league, whose jersey number has remained a constant No. 7 for 11 years.
It seems that NBA fans no longer hate James, years after "The Decision". The superstar forward said, "It means a lot to know that I have so many fans that want to wear my jersey because they respect the way I play the game and respect who I am as a man. Thanks so much to all that 'Strive for Greatness'".
In a Fox Sports report, Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City, the leading scorer in the NBA, garnered the No. 2 spot. Teammate Russell Westbrook was also in the list. Others who also made the best-selling spots include Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers, James Harden of the Houston Rockets, Paul George of the Indiana Pacers, Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics, Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs, Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
Tim Duncan was last in the list in 2007. Kevin Durant's quick popularity may have been triggered by his 32 points per game average. The NBA announced the best-selling players and teams without revealing the actual and full sales figures, writes Bloomberg.
In terms of team-merchandise sales, the Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks also sold more than other teams in the NBA. The rankings were made based on overall retail sales on NBAStore.com from the beginning of the 2013-2014 regular season.
