There have been many rumors circulating around the so-called Xperia Z1 Mini from Sony, but now we know for certain what to expect from the upcoming smartphone.

During the DoCoMo event in Japan, Sony officially revealed the device to the public, now called the Xperia Z1f, and much of the information concerning the new smartphone can be found on the Sony Mobile Japan website.

While some may have expected the Xperia Z1f to be a budget version of the original, that is simply not the case. The screen may not be as impressive as the 5-inch 1080p display with 440 ppi that comes with the Xperia Z1, but the Z1f has a 4.3-inch 720p display with 341 pixels per inch, making it comparable to other displays on the marketplace currently.

Besides the display and the smaller dimensions, the Xperia Z1f is pretty much the same phone on the inside compared to the original Z1. The big highlight of the Xperia Z1 was the 20.7-megapixel camera attached to the back. This impressive camera will also be a part of the Xperia Z1f, meaning users can still take the same amazing photographs with the Z1f as they could with the Z1.

For the processor for the Xperia Z1f, Sony has decided to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, which will run at 2.2GHz. The device will have 2GB of RAM in addition to this chipset and will have 16GB of internal memory for storing photos, apps and games on the device. These specs are virtually the same as those found in the Xperia Z1.

Since this is an Xperia device, the Z1f is dust and water resistant. The operating system attached to the device is Android version 4.2.2, meaning that users will have to wait to see if they receive Android 4.3 like on the HTC One Max or even the rumored Android 4.4. KitKat.

The Xperia Z1f has a few different color schemes available, some of which are not available on the Xperia Z1. Sony offered the Xperia Z1 in black, white and purple, while the Xperia Z1f will be available in black, white, pink and lime green.

Those excited for the device will disappointed to know that it was only announced for Japan. While Sony may release the device to other markets sometime in the future, it looks as though the Xperia Z1f is a Japan exclusive for the time being.
