The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is one of the biggest and most exciting phablets released by Sony in select markets, and now tech fans in the U.S. may soon get the chance to buy the device themselves.
Online retailer Newegg is now accepting pre-orders for the Xperia Z Ultra in three colors (black, white and purple) and in both the HSPA+ and LTE models. The HSPA+ model is on sale for $699.99; the LTE is slightly more expensive at $729.99. The device has an expected delivery date of Oct. 14. Newegg lists the phone unattached to any carriers.
Sony has yet to announce any plans to bring the phablet to North America since formally announcing the device on June 25. While the device has already begun to roll out in several markets, Sony still does not have the device listed for pre-order on its official website, so perhaps the company is plotting a quiet roll out of the device rather than a splashy announcement.
The Xperia Z Ultra has a massive 6.4-inch Triluminos 1080p Full HD display, which may make it a little too big for some users. The Z Ultra has quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor capable of running at 2.2 GHz, making the phablet one of the more powerful devices on the market. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra comes with 2GB of RAM with 16GB of internal memory in the device, which users can increase up to 64GB of memory through the microSD card slot. Users will be able to use the 8-megapixel camera on the rear to take photos and videos, as well as 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The device's operating system is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Sony's X-Reality Engine, making it fairly advanced in terms of Android features. Finally, the phablet will have a non-removable 3050 mAh battery, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a capable device and should draw some looks from those wishing to obtain one of the top-of-the-line phablets available soon in North America.
