Xperia Z2 Release Date Rumored for April 2014, Specs Also Discussed

Various rumors have swirled around the Internet lately about the alleged specs of the Sony Xperia Z2, and now a new report claims to have confirmed the device's release date. According to an unnamed Japanese source who spoke to AndroidSaS, Sony's newest flagship smartphone will be available sometime in April 2014. This report contradicts previous claims that the device would be revealed and released sometime around CES in January 2014.

While the legitimacy of the rumor is unknown, considering the Xperia Z2's predecessor, the Xperia Z1, only just became available to buy online, and not even through service providers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint, it would make sense for Sony to wait until April rather than January. After all, releasing an upgraded version of a phone less than six months after the device was first launched in the United States seems a bit premature, but an April reveal would make much more sense.

The Sony Xperia Z2 will retain one of the biggest features found in the Xperia Z1, the 20.7-megapixel camera, however, it is rumored that the camera will also have a Xenon flash included to help the camera take photos in low light situations. The Z2 is also rumored to improve on the Z1 in many different ways. The display is rumored to be either 5.2 or 5.5-inch IGZO and Triluminuous display capable of Full HD and a pixel density of 540 ppi. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 3GB of RAM is the rumored processor for the device, though if the handset is coming in April, a newer more powerful chipset may be available. The battery for the device is rumored to be 3,500 mAh capacity, giving it one of the larger batteries on the market. Finally, rumors indicate that the Xperia Z2 will have Android 4.4 KitKat as its operating system, as it is widely expected that Google will have launched the newest operating system by the time the Xperia Z2 will become available.

The Sony Xperia Z2 sounds like it could be an impressive device whenever it becomes available for users, however, until Sony officially reveals the device it is unknown what the phone's actual specs will be.
