The Xperia Z1 might have just launched in North America, but Sony is apparently already preparing several different versions of the smartphone for release. While rumors have begun circulating about the Z1's successor, currently called the Xperia Z2, new details have also emerged about the Xperia Z1 Mini.
According to Xperia Blog, a leak from NTT DoCoMo shows the Japanese specifications for the Xperia Z1, along with the "Xperia Z1 f," which looks to be the Z1 mini due to the smartphone's dimensions. As with all leaks, the purported Z1 specs could be inaccurate, so it's best to take the information with grain of salt until Sony officially reveals the device.
Some of the most interesting details revealed in the leak are the Z1 mini's color options. While the original Z1 comes in black, white and purple, the leak shows the Z1 mini coming in black, white, pink and yellow. This would be a radical departure for the Xperia line and could show that Sony is taking a cue from the recently released iPhone 5c.
As for the Z1 mini's specs, the chipset will be a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 model that is found in the original Z1. Another similar feature found in the Z1 mini inherited from the original Z1 is the camera, which shoots at 20.7 megapixels. The camera is one of the highlights of the Z1, so it would make sense that Sony would carry this feature over to the new smartphone.
Other key specs for the Xperia Z1 mini include the display, which will be 4.3 inches and carries a resolution of 720 x 1280. The device will also have 16GB of internal memory, 2GB of RAM and a 2300mAh battery.
These specs are fairly impressive, and could put the Xperia Z1 mini at the top of the smartphone market, as the device packs powerful specs and a strong camera into a compact size. It is unknown when the Xperia Z1 mini will launch, but considering the Xperia Z1 was only recently released in the United States it may be some time before the mini version of the device is released to the public.
