NBA Trade Rumors and News: Omer Asik – Ryan Anderson Swap Still Possibility; Detroit Pistons Plan To Trade Assets

Despite pulling off a flurry of moves this summer, the Detroit Pistons are still expected to hammer down several deals next season given the logjam of players they have, particularly in the backcourt and small forward positions.

The Pistons, who signed Josh Smith and traded for Brandon Jennings this offseason, are set to be a major player on the trading floor before the February 2014 trade deadline.

Small forwards Jonas Jerebko, Kyle Singler and Italian Luigi Datome could all be shipped midway into the season if head coach Maurice Cheeks finds it hard to allot time for these players.

Aside from the swingman position, the Pistons are also dealing with a surplus of talents in their backcourt with Jennings, Rodney Stuckey, Chauncey Billups, Will Bynum, and rookies Peyton Siva and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope all looking for quality minutes on the floor.

However, there's also the possibility that things might work out for the Pistons given the versatility they have. Smith, who could play both the small forward and power forward positions, liked what he sees from their current roster.

"We have a lot of flexibility," Smith told Detroit Free Press. "I wouldn't be surprised if guys played different positions in the backcourt or along the front line, depending on matchups."

Meanwhile, veteran Chicago Bulls writer Sam Smith has revived trade talks surrounding Houston Rockets center Omer Asik. Smith believed the former Bulls center will eventually be shipped next season for the reason that the Turk and Dwight Howard would never co-exist together on the floor.

Moreover, Smith said sources told him that the Rockets are really looking for a power forward that can space out the floor by shooting efficiently from downtown. One of the possible scenarios is sending Asik to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Ryan Anderson, who has emerged as one of the best shooters in the NBA.

The Pistons and the Rockets are scheduled to start training camp in the coming days with the preseason slated to begin two weeks from now.
