NBA News: Pelicans Excited About Greg Oden; DeMarcus Cousins Wants $80 Million
The New Orleans Pelicans are in position to sign former no.1 overall pick Greg Oden and that what makes point guard Jrue Holiday and forward Ryan Anderson excited for the upcoming season.
Holiday, who becomes the starting point guard for the Pelicans after he was traded by the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for no.6 overall pick Nerlens Noel, thinks Oden will be an awesome addition to their team.
Anderson also expressed his excitement in teaming up with Oden, who was previously considered a once in a generation big man before a myriad of injuries derailed his career.
"A healthy Greg Oden is a great player, so I'd definitely be excited to play alongside him," Anderson told RealGM. "Obviously, it seems we might need another big center."
Oden is expected to announce his decision soon after staging a private workout in front of several teams (Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat) this past week.
Center DeMarcus Cousins is reportedly scheduled to meet top executives of the Sacramento Kings to talk about a possible contract extension worth $80 million over five years.
Cousins will be eligible for an extension deal after averaging 16.3 points and 9.8 rebounds in his first three seasons with the Kings.
The fifth overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft spent this past week training with fellow USA select players in a mini-camp organized by USA Basketball.
Unlike last year's chaotic stint, Cousins received positive feedback from the coaches as he looks to become a more mature player on and off the court.
According to NBA insider Brett Poirier, Cousins' agent Dan Fegan reportedly wants a max deal for his client, whose rookie contract is set to expire at the end of the 2013-2014 season.
