NBA Free Agency 2013: Nate Robinson, Denver Nuggets Agree To Two-Year Deal; Greg Oden To Meet Heat, Pelicans, Kings
Veteran guard Nate Robinson is finally off the market after reportedly signing to a two-year deal with the Denver Nuggets, a source close to situation disclosed on Monday.
Robinson has landed an NBA deal after struggling to find a desirable contract from some of his suitors this summer. Prior to this signing, Robinson drew interest from the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers and his former team the New York Knicks.
According to reports, the Nuggets will be using their bi-annual salary cap exceptions on Robinson, who's due to pocket $4.03 million over the next two seasons.
The acquisition of the 5-foot-11 Robinson is easily the most intriguing free agency decision made by the Nuggets, who already have Andre Miller and Ty Lawson at the point.
However, first-year head coach Brian Shaw will probably use Robinson as a off-guard scorer off the bench, a role previously held by now Minnesota Timberwolves' Corey Brewer.
Drafted 21st overall in 2005, Robinson played his first four and half seasons with the Knicks before becoming a journeyman in this league.
For the last four seasons, the Washington Huskies standout played for the Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors and the Chicago Bulls, where he re-ignited his career following a sensational run in the playoffs.
Robinson averaged a career-high 16.3 points and 4.4 assists in 12 appearances, eight of them starts, for the Bulls' during their improbable playoff campaign, which saw him drop 34 points in Game 4 of the first-round series against the Brooklyn Nets and 27 points in Game 1 of their second-round duel against the Miami Heat.
Meanwhile, former first overall pick Greg Oden is expected to meet representatives from the Miami Heat, New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings before making his decision next week.
Oden is the last potentially dominant big man remaining on the market after Dwight Howard (Houston Rockets) and Andrew Bynum (Cleveland Cavaliers) signed with their new ball clubs.
The former Ohio State Buckeyes standout hasn't played a single NBA game since he went down with another devastating knee injury in December 2009. Since then, Oden spent the last two seasons rehabilitating his knee after coming off multiple surgeries.
