NBA News 2013: Bulls Rookie Drawing Comparisons From Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard
Chicago Bulls rookie Tony Snell is suddenly drawing comparison from San Antonio Spurs small forward Kawhi Leonard after putting up solid number in the Las Vegas Summer League.
At 6-foot-7, 200 pounds, the 21-year old Snell resembles the physique of Leonard, who's considered right now as one of the most coveted young talents in the NBA following his sensational performance in the 2013 NBA Finals.
Snell, taken 20th overall by the Bulls in the 2013 NBA Draft, played incredibly well in the Summer League as he averaged 11.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He also racked up 20 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists against the Dallas Mavericks in the final game of the Summer League.
"I love it,'' said Snell. "I mean to be compared to Kawhi Leonard . . . we're talking about a phenomenal player. His defense is amazing; he works hard; he gets better every year. You can see the work he's put in," Snell told Chicago Sun Time about being compared with Leonard.
Snell admitted he's impressed by Leonard's showing in the recent NBA finals, especially when the Spurs forward went head-to-head against LeBron James on the defensive end.
'This season, everyone had a chance to see him in the Finals guarding LeBron [James], so that speaks for itself." He added. "How could I not like the comparisons?''
Snell, who helped the New Mexico Lobos reach the NCAA Tournament for two consecutive seasons, said his goal right now is to become a solid contributor for the Bulls and eventually help the team win championship.
"This is the place I wanted to be. I just know that I want to try to help this team win a championship,'' the former Lobos standout said at the conclusion of the Summer League.
