Video Has NBA Dallas Mavericks Star Dirk Nowitzki Showing the Art of ‘Flopping’ in Charity Match
Dallas Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki proved again that 'flopping' is part of winning after the former NBA MVP pulled off what looked like another Oscar-worthy acting to get a penalty kick during a charity soccer match in Germany.
In probably the worst flop ever done by a player, Nowitzki avoided a tackle from his defender but he then intentionally dived to the ground to make it appear as if he was tackled hard inside the box.
The flop paid off for Nowitzki, who converted the penalty shot to give his team a leg up in a star-studded charity match in Würzburg, Germany on Sunday.
Unfortunately, Dirk's acting wasn't enough to give his team the victory as his side narrowly bowed out to Manuel Neuer's team in a score of 8-7.
About three weeks ago, Nowitzki shared his thoughts about flopping and explained how it becomes all part of the game.
"We're never going to get rid of it," Nowitzki told Dallas Morning News three weeks ago. "But you got to limit it. It's part of sports. It's part of winning. Some people are smart and do a little extra thing to kind of sell the call. To me, that's part of sports.
"You don't want the obvious ones, the really, really bad ones. I think we'd love to get rid of those. But if somebody really does get shoved or hit a little bit, just to sell it a little for the referees so it does get the call, I don't have a problem with that. I think that's part of the game," added Dirk, who will not play for Germany in the upcoming Euro Basket.
