NBA Report: Charlotte Bobcats Hire Patrick Ewing As Associate Coach; Brooklyn Nets To Sign Jason Kidd As New Head Coach
Former New York Knicks center Patrick Ewing will be teaming up with his old rival Michael Jordan after he agreed to become the new associate head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats, a source close to situation reported on Wednesday.
Ewing becomes the first hire of new Bobcats head coach Steve Clifford, who faced a daunting task of turning around the fate of the struggling franchise.
Ewing worked as an assistant coach alongside Clifford for five years under Stan Van Gundy, but he took a year away from coaching after the Orlando Magic decided to make a major overhaul in their roster and coaching personnel after the 2011-2012 season.
The Hall of Fame center is expected to train and develop the post-up games of Bobcats bigmen Bismack Biyombo and Byron Mullins. General manager Rich Cho also discussed the team's plan of adding 'big' in the offseason, either by selecting a prospect in the upcoming draft or signing a free-agent.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets are reportedly set to offer recently-retired point guard Jason Kidd a head coaching job.
Kidd, who spent seven of his 19 NBA seasons with the Nets, is expected to land the team's head coaching role soon, according to a league insider.
The Nets previously considered Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw as the frontrunner for their head-coaching job, but Kidd's relationship with All-Star point guard Deron Williams and his history with the franchise made the selection easier for the front office.
