San Antonio Spurs vs. Miami Heat: Live Stream, TV Schedule & Preview For Game 2 Of NBA Finals 2013
After surviving the Indiana Pacers in an exhausting seven-game series, the Miami Heat faces again a must-win contest on Sunday as they try to avoid a 0-2 hole at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
LeBron James delivered another triple-double gem (18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists) in the series opener, but the Spurs' rock solid team defense hounded the four-time MVP to just 7-for-16 from the field.
Second-year forward Kawhi Leonard had an outstanding job containing the best player in the planet, putting him out of the comfort zone and even making him passive in the fourth quarter.
The 37-year old Tim Duncan racked up 20 points and 14 rebounds after committing two fouls in the first quarter while Manu Ginobili added 13 off the bench.
But the biggest story so far in this year's championship series was the game-sealing jumper by Tony Parker in the winding minutes of Game 1.
With the Spurs only up by two points, Parker appeared to have lost the ball as he drove towards the Heat's defense, but like all great players do, he still had the presence of mind to dribble the ball, pick it up and release it over the outstretched arms of LeBron James.
The ball gently bounced off the backboard and trickled down the rim to give the Spurs 92-88 lead with 5.2 seconds left on the clock. The Heat couldn't execute well their play on the other end, giving the Spurs the win in the finals opener.
"We got a little bit lucky in Game 1," Parker told reporters during the post-game press conference, according to the Associated Press. "Sometimes that's what it takes to win games."
The Spurs shot 41.7 percent from the field and committed just four turnovers the entire game. On the other hand, the Heat shot 43.6 percent on the floor but scored just 16 points in the fourth quarter.
Dwyane Wade, who scored 17 points on 7-for-15 shooting in Game 1, said there's nothing like in the NBA Finals.
"No, they're not," Wade told reporters right after Saturday's practice session. "They're stimulating. You feel alive. I wouldn't say fun, but there's no other place I'd rather be. It's kind of a misery you enjoy. You're cranky, especially after a loss. You don't like the other team. You're just a general grouch, but it's the time you feel most alive as a basketball player and there's nothing like it. Once you taste it, you don't want to live without it."
Game 2 of the NBA Finals is expected to be another all-out war with the Heat trying to level the series at 1-1 while the Spurs look for a 2-0 edge before heading to San Antonio for the next three games in the 2-3-2 format championship series.
The NBA pre-game show starts at 8:00 p.m ET and the Game 2 tip-off starts at 9:00 pm ET.
