NBA Playoffs 2013 Video: Roy Hibbert's Indiana Pacers Cool Off LeBron James' Miami Heat in Game 4 To Tie Eastern Conference Finals (Full Game Highlights)
Things have just gotten much more interesting in the NBA's Eastern Conference Finals as Roy Hibbert and Lance Stephenson combined for 43 points to help the Indiana Pacers beat LeBron James and the defending world champion Miami Heat 99-92 in Game 4 Tuesday in Indianapolis to tie the series at 2-all.
With their backs against the wall and facing a possible 3-1 hole after going down 2-1 in the series, the Pacers rallied in front of their home crowd at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis with a blend of smothering defense that has become their trademark and stifling domination in the paint thanks to Hibbert, who finished with a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Stephenson, who has exploded in the playoffs for the Pacers, finished with 20 points and some key baskets down the stretch, including a clutch three-pointer at the end of the third quarter to put the Pacers up 77-70.
The Pacers, who like to play a physical brand of defense, managed to get the Heat in foul trouble during the game, capped with James, who scored 24 points on 8-of-18 shooting, fouling out with 56 seconds left in the game for only the second time in his playoff career. The foul-out was costly for the Heat as the reigning MVP drilled a 28-foot three-pointer with 1:20 in the fourth quarter to cut Indiana's lead to 94-92.
"We're never going to give up. We're relentless," Hibbert said during the post-game interview. "All those guys in there, they believe we can win. No matter what all the analysts or whoever says anything, they count us out, those guys in the locker room were ready to play and we went out and played our hearts out."
This marks the second year in a row that the Pacers and Heat have met in deep playoff action, and the last series, during the semifinals in the 2012 playoffs, saw the Pacers leading 2 games to 1 when James and the Heat won three in a row to take the series, and eventually, the world championship.
However, one year older and wiser, the Pacers have been befuddling Miami with their size and power advantage. Added to the Heat's foul issues--30 personal fouls in Game 4--and Indiana is in the position to pull off what experts would see as a stunning upset.
"I just felt the guys showed a lot of fight," Pacers forward David West said. "We've got a group of guys on this team that are full of heart. A tough group, willing to step up to the challenge. We knew this was a make-or-break game for us."
However, the Heat took back home court advantage thanks to their Game 3 win, Miami center Chris Bosh noted in the post-game, and have an opportunity to take a 3-2 series lead when the series shifts back to the American Airlines Arena in Miami on Friday.
"We had them right where we wanted them, but every time we would get a stop, especially in the fourth quarter, we didn't come up with the rebound," Bosh said. "It was there for us, but we didn't capitalize."
