WWE Monday Night RAW Recap, Results For May 20, 2013: Paul Heyman Introduces His New Client to The WWE Universe & Triple H; The Shield Continue Their Roll
- The show begins with Ryback driving an ambulance into the Sprint Center, in Kansas City, MO. Ryback tells the crowd that John Cena, who he battled to a no-contest in their "Last Man Standing" match at the "Extreme Rules" pay-per-view (PPV), got lucky he was able to walk away from their match, and promised him he'll need medical assistance they need they meet.
Ryback goes on to challenge Cena to an "Ambulance Match," at "WWE Payback" in June, for the WWE Championship, promising not only to put the champion in the hospital, but the entire WWE Universe, as well.
- Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, and JBL announce that Paul Heyman has a new client in his stable and will introduce him later in the show.
Match #1: Wade Barrett (Intercontinental Champion) & Fandango (w/Summer Rae vs. Chris Jericho & The Miz
The odd couple of Barrett and Fandango teamed up against a reunited Jeri-Miz, working well as unit until Fandango became more concerned with the pronunciation of his name, grabbing the mic and addressing the crowd, as Barrett had control of the match.
Fandango's music then hits and he began dancing with Summer Rae, in the middle of his bout, confusing everyone involved. The distraction was enough for Jericho to hit Barrett with a Codebreaker, who tagged in The Miz, and sealed the win with a Figure-Four leg-lock.
Winners: Chris Jericho & The Miz
MATCH #2: Sheamus vs. Titus O'Neil (w/Darren Young)
This match came as a result of the words O'Neil had for Sheamus during the "Extreme Rules" post-match show. O'Neil tried to take control early in the match, with Young to interfering on behalf of his Prime-Time Players' tag partner, only to get tossed into the barricade by the Irishman. Sheamus regained control, despite the the numbers, and nailed O'Neil with the Brogue Kick for the three-count.
Winner: Sheamus
- Paul Heyman comes out to the ring, bragging about Lesnar's victory over Triple H, in their Steel Cage "Extreme Rules" match. Heyman says that while Lesnar has fulfilled his contractual obligations, he has a new client that will give the WWE a "SportsCenter" moment. Heyman introduces Curtis Axel - son of WWE legend, "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, and grandson of Larry "The Ax" Hennig.
Triple H interrupts Axel and Heyman, challenging the third generation wrestler to a match, later in the night.
Match #3: Alberto Del Rio (w/Ricardo Rodriguez) vs. Big E. Langston (w/AJ Lee)
Del Rio assaults Langston early, attempting a Cross-Arm Breaker early, only to get slammed hard into the mat. Langston punishes Del Rio throughout the match but Del Rio comes back strong, again attempting the Cross-Arm Breaker. AJ steals Rodriguez's bucket, he carries ringside, and tosses it into the ring as Del Rio was attempting his finisher. Langston rakes Del Rio's eyes as the referee gets ride of the foreign object, hitting the former his "Big Endings" finished to earn the victory.
Winner: Big E. Langston
Match #4: Layla vs AJ Lee
AJ pounces early, taking down Layla with two neckbreakers, for the two-count. Layla fights back and mocks AJ, imitating her skip to the ring. Layla continues controlling the match until AJ countered with a side-slam, then clamping on the "Black Widow" submission hold for the win.
Winner: AJ Lee
Match #5: Cody Rhodes vs. Zack Ryder
Ryder mounts an offense early but Rhodes corners him, stomping him down, only to get a two-count. Rhodes works on Ryder's arm, but manages to come back at Rhodes with a big right hand that set up the "Broski Boot" for a two-count. Rhodes recovers and nails Ryder with the "Disaster Kick" for the win.
Winner: Cody Rhodes
- Ryback makes his way to the ring and Rhodes leaves Ryder alone in the ring. Ryback goes on to punish Ryder - with a "Meathook," a power-bomb, and a "Shell Shock." Ryback then carries a battered Ryder to the ambulance, as a message to Cena.
Match #6: The Shield (US Champion Dean Ambrose & Tag Team Champions Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins) vs. Team Hell No & Kofi Kingston
The Shield make their debut as champions, teaming up against their opponents from "Extreme Rules", in a three-man tag match. The action went back and forth with The Shield working on Daniel Bryan midway through match, after Seth Rollins drilled Bryan with a stiff "Buckle Bomb." Bryan eventually makes the hot-tag to Kane, who clears house before a Rollins' flying knee caught the "Big Red Machine" off-guard, followed by a Roman Reigns spear, to defeat the former champions.
Winners: The Shield
- Triple H is taping himself up, for his match with Axel. The doctors advice him against competing, after the punishment he suffered in his "Extreme Rules" steel cage match. Triple H warns the doctors that if they have a problem with him competing, they could look for jobs elsewhere.
- Jack Swagger Zeb Colter was out in ring, as they awaited to find out who his opponent (Great Khali, R-Truth or Randy Orton) would be - to be chosen by the WWE Universe through the new WWE app.
Match #7: Jack Swagger (w/Zeb Colter) vs. Randy Orton
Swagger uses his NCAA wrestling skills to wear Orton down and work on his leg. Orton fights back, attempting to set up the draping DDT only to have Swagger ram him into the barrier. Swagger continued pecking away at Orton's leg, getting several two-count near-falls, until Orton nailed a back-breaker to turn the tide. Orton hits his draping DDT and sets up for the RKO, only to have Swagger slip on "Patriot Lock" on Orton. Orton drags himself to the ropes, to break the hold. As Swagger attempted to pull him off the ropes, Orton stuns the All-American with an RKO to steal a victory.
Winners: Randy Orton
Match #8: Triple H vs. Curtis Axel (w/Paul Heyman)
Triple H dominated his young opponent to start the match, choking him in the corner before tossing him from the ring. Axel managed to turns things around on the former heavyweight champion, holding his own with a series of dropkicks and forearms.
Triple H mounts a comeback, backing down Axel with shoulder-blocks, a jawbreaker, and a spinebuster. Triple H tosses Axel outside the ring, but appears to be hurt, as he takes the fight to the floor. After a vicious clothesline on Axel, Triple H has trouble getting back into the ring, appearing disoriented, before taking a seat and asking for water. He attempts to get back into the ring only to stumble, take a knee, and struggle back to the chair. Trainers came out to attend to Triple H, who falls as he attempts to stand up and continue the match. Triple H weakly attempts to get back up only to have the trainers tell him he's done for the night, struggling to stay up, as the show goes off the air.
