Phil Jackson Ready To Listen To Raptors And Nets Continuously Pursuing Legendary Coach?
11-time champion coach Phil Jackson is reportedly considering to listen to a pitch from the Toronto Raptors for a role in the team's front-office, albeit he remains open to a possible hook-up with other ball clubs.
Jackson is increasingly bent on returning to the league after a two-year hiatus. However, the ex-Lakers coach insisted that he's more interested in assuming an advisory role than a more active role in a basketball franchise.
Jackson wanted a situation where he has the green light to hire a coach and mentor him according to his vision.
The Cleveland Cavaliers showed interest in hiring Jackson as a full-time coach, but the former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers mentor is not anymore interested in coaching again. The Cavs then hired back Mike Brown, who ironically succeeded Jackson as the Lakers coach following the Zen Master's retirement in 2010.
According to a CBS' NBA insider, the Toronto Raptors becomes an ideal destination for Jackson following the arrival of former AEG CEO Tim Leiweke, who has close ties with the coach.
"He's very well-connected in the league and he has to rebuild that franchise," a league source said of Leiweke told CBS Sports Ken Berger. "... He's about championships. They didn't just bring him in there to mind the house.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets may continue on pursuing Jackson to become their president of basketball operations despite signing general manager and president Billy King to a contract extension last week according to CBS Sports.
Nets owner and Russian Tycoon Mikhail Prokhorov is reportedly willing to shell out big money for Jackson, whom he believes is the perfect person to lead his team to a title contention over the next two or three years.
Prokhorov already reached out to Jackson after the Nets fired Avery Johnson last season.
Other potential candidates to the Nets' coaching job is former Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan and former Detroit Piston coach Larry Brown.
