While some NBA teams have advanced to the semifinal round of the NBA playoffs Sunday, other teams are locked in first round battles as more NBA Playoffs action for Monday kicks off.
On Sunday, the Boston Celtics staved off elimination thanks to a 97-90 overtime win in Boston over the New York Knicks behind Paul Pierce's 29 points, who kept the Celtics in the game despite being outscored by Knicks star Carmelo Anthony, who dropped 36 points to lead all scorers. The Knicks lead the series 3 games to 1 with the series heading back to New York on Wednesday.
In Milwaukee, the world champion Miami Heat completed their first playoff sweep in the Big Three era of Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade by beating the Milwaukee Bucks 88-77 thanks to James' 30 points. Monta Ellis led the Bucks with 21 points.
The San Antonio Spurs ended the L.A. Lakers' struggle-laden season with a dominating 103-82 victory to complete a 4-0 sweep of the Lakers. Tony Parker led the Spurs with 23 points while Pau Gasol led the Lakers with 16 points. And the Golden State Warriors took a commanding 3-1 series lead thanks to Stephen Curry's 31 points to lead Golden Sate to a 115-101 victory over the Denver Nuggets, despite 26 points from Ty Lawson.
The action continues on Monday with the Chicago Bulls looking to advance to the semifinals against the Brooklyn Nets when they visit the Barclays center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Bulls took a 3-1 series lead by beating the Nets in a thrilling 142-134 victory in overtime. Nate Robinson, who was embroiled in a brawl with C.J. Watson on Saturday, has been big for the Bulls, averaging 17.3 points for the series. But with the Nets still with Brook Lopez and Deron Williams on their side, the Nets will look to make a comeback.
Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers look to extend their lead in their series with the Atlanta Hawks when they visit the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga. The Pacers lead the series 2-1, with All-Star Paul George leading the way for the Central Division champion Pacers. But with home court on their side, Josh Smith and the Hawks could even things up.
And in prime time, the Oklahoma City Thunder look to complete a sweep while the Houston Rockets look to keep their season alive when the two teams clash in Game 4 of their first round series at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Even with All-Star guard Russell Westbrook, out for the season with a meniscus injury, Kevin Durant has been carrying the load for the Thunder. And with Jeremy Lin's health in question, the Rockets will need others to step up and provide All-Star James Harden enough firepower and support to keep their season alive.
