Lakers News: L.A. Gets Hit By Injuries In Game 2 Loss vs. San Antonio Spurs - 2013 NBA Playoffs Recap
Just when we thought things couldn't get any worse for the Los Angeles Lakers, they just did. In Game 2 of the team's best-of-seven series against the San Antonio Spurs, LA was plagued with yet another string of injuries; leading the Spurs to win Game 2, 102-91, and leaving them winless in two games.
Coming into the match, the Mike D'Antoni-led team was already suffering from an ailed roster. Kobe Bryant, the leading scorer of LA, is out for the rest of the season due to a torn Achilles tendon; Jodie Meeks was also out due to a sprained left ankle; Metta World Peace has yet to fully recover from a major knee injury; and Steve Nash was still suffering from his hip and hamstring injuries. Add that to a list of Lakers players who've also been hit by injuries this season, and you have a wounded roster.
As if that wasn't enough problems for the franchise, during LA's on court battle against the Spurs on Wednesday, the team has hit yet another hurdle.
Steve Nash further aggravated his hip injury, while tweaking his right hamstring during the first half of the game and causing him to miss half of the fourth quarter of Game 2. With this, the player is looking to receive his third epidural shot in just a bit more than a week to ease the pain.
Just as well, Steve Blake-the player who has tremendously stepped up with the absence of Bryant-also injured his hamstring during the fourth and had to pull out of the game. Blake, who also suffered an abdominal injury in the regular season, is scheduled for an ultrasound on Thursday. As to whether Nash and Blake's can play in Game 3 remains unknown.
"This has been far and away the worst season for injuries I have ever been a part of personally and professionally," said Nash.
"It's just unfortunate and bad luck, but there's really nothing you can do about it," said Meeks who is still expected to miss Game 3 to a sprained left ankle.
The string of injuries has led the team to field in rookie, Darius Morris, for 23 minutes in the game. But the team isn't giving up, keeping their faith in every player on court.
"No matter what happens, we're going to keep fighting," expressed Blake. "Whether I'm playing or I'm not playing, whoever steps into somebody else's role, we have confidence in them. They're going to go out there and do their job and we're going to fight to the end, that's for sure."
As for Game 3, scheduled on Sunday, the team is hopeful that every player can make it on court to win their first game in the series. The game will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be televised live on TNT and online on NBA League Pass.
