Derrick Rose Return Update News: Rose Could Return For the NBA Playoffs, But John Wall, Taj Gibson Advise Against It
Only nine games remain in the Chicago Bulls regular season, and at this point, it's safe to say that Bulls fans should not expect to see superstar Bulls point guard Derrick Rose suit up again anytime before the season ends.
However, there might be a slim chance that Rose might play again when the stakes are highest for the Bulls-the playoffs.
Rose told ESPN's Chris Broussard last week that he wouldn't be opposed to making his season debut in the playoffs instead of getting a few regular season games under his belt.
While the news might be music to Bulls fans' ears, not everyone is so on board with the idea.
Washington Wizards point guard John Wall, who came off a knee injury that cost him two months of his talented career, knows that injuries as severe as Rose's ACL injury take time to fully heal. And for that, Wall believes that Rose should sit out the entire season, including the playoffs.
"I feel like [if] I were in the situation I wouldn't really [come back this year] because you don't have enough time to get into a rhythm," Wall told ESPN. "Then you get to the playoffs, D-Rose wouldn't be good for that team just playing 20 minutes a game. They're already a good team and good defensively, but to be even better he would have to play more minutes."
Rose has admitted that he still isn't comfortable with some of the mental aspects of the recovery process. And with friend and Bulls teammate Taj Gibson injuring his left knee on Tuesday with a sprain, it serves as a reminder of how perilous the road to recover is for Rose.
"That's what happens when you rush back and try to help your team win," Gibson said after the Bulls' loss to the Wizards.
The Bulls have been riddled with injuries all season, All-Stars Joakim Noah and Luol Deng among the high-profile Bulls who have been hurt. With the playoffs fast approaching, all hands will be needed on deck.
However, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is taking the cautious approach when it comes to his players' health.
"Respecting the game is very, very important," he said. "But I also think you have the obligation if a guy is hurt or hurting and it's best to give him the rest, then you do that. In my eyes you do what's right. You do what's right for the game."
