Derrick Rose Return News: Despite Waka Flaka Flame Tweet, Rose Doesn't Look Ready To Come Back Yet
You can't blame Waka Flaka Flame for trying.
The Queens-born rapper and hoops fan caused a stir on Twitter before Wednesday's highly-anticipated game between the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat when he sent out a tweet on Twitter:
"Word is D.Rose is back," the tweet from the superstar rapper read.
He was, of course, referring to injured Chicago Bulls superstar Derrick Rose, who has been slowly and methodically rehabbing his surgically repaired left knee-torn nearly a year ago during Game 1 of the first round of the NBA playoffs-while the Bulls find themselves looking to climb higher in the playoff standings.
However, despite the rumor, Rose did not play Wednesday against the Heat. Although, the team still managed to pull off a 101-97 victory over Miami to snap the defending world champions' win streak at 27 games.
Still, Rose had a good laugh about the rapper's tweet.
"I'm happy he's a fan of mine," Rose said. "I've heard a lot of his music. It gets you amped up."
But when reporters asked him Wednesday after the morning shootaround when he will come back, Rose gave the same answer he's given for about a month now.
"I really don't know, man," Rose said. "Like I said, it's in God's hands. Every day I'm just waking up to try and be the best player, try and produce every time I step on the court, just try and get better as a player, and who knows when?"
With only 12 games left in the regular season, the likelihood that Rose will suit up in his No.1 jersey for the Bulls this season is looking more unlikely by the day. Rose was medically cleared to play on March 7, but he still didn't feel confident with the explosiveness in his left leg that he needed when dunking.
Because of that, the former league MVP and three-time NBA All-Star said he won't come back until he can play at the level that fans have been accustomed to seeing the best Chicago Bulls player since Michael Jordan play.
Bulls general manager Gar Forman told Comcast SportsNet Chicago on Wednesday that Rose's recovery was on schedule and he would be ready to come back when he was ready.
"We said (after his May 12 surgery) that it was going to be an 8-12 month window for him to get back to 100 percent," Forman said. "We're right within that window now. He's doing fine. There has never been any type of setback. He continues to make progress, which is very encouraging.
