Techies are looking to get spoiled this year if Google treats them with two new Nexus smartphones -- one of which will be manufactured by LG, while the other by Huawei. The former is a revamped version of Nexus 5 (2013), and Gizmochina cites some "leaked" features the device is expected to offer.
The leak claims that the LG Nexus 5 will sport a 5.2-inch full 1080 HD P-OLED display, and a Snapdragon 620 (MSM8976) chipset will handle its operation. Under the hood, the unit will boast a 64-bit SoC that offers an octa core CPU and next-gen Adreno GPU with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage.
The unit is reported to have a MediaTek T3188 wireless charging receiver and Marvell Avastar 88W8897 connectivity chipset (802.11ac Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth 4.2). It also comes with a 3180mAh non-removable battery, which, according to Ausroid, should last a long time with a minimal FullHD resolution display. Reportedly, the phone will also support a USB Type-C connector with QuickCharge 2.0.
Gizmochina further reveals that the unit is built with front stereo speakers and an integrated fingerprint sensor. The 13-megapixel rear camera must not also be overlooked as it features an IMX278 RGBW sensor, 6-element f/1.8 aperture lens, OIS, laser autofocus and dual-tone LED flash.
For sharp selfies, LG Nexus 5 allegedly comes with a 4-megapixel front camera with an OV4682 RGB-IR sensor and Iris Detection.
Claimed to retail from $300 to $400, the device is said to boast an aluminum frame with chamfered edges and matte plastic back cover.
But how is it different from the reported Huawei Nexus?
Earlier this week, Steve Hemmerstoffer of @onleaks released a video on Youtube, showing a prototype of what is purported to be the Huawei Nexus, Android Central reports.
The video showed the rear of the unit, which, according to Pocket-lint, looks like a fingerprint reader. The site further notes that it makes sense that Google is continuing this feature with the increase of fingerprint-authenticated payment systems.
A quick turn to the bottom of the prototype and what looks like a USB Type-C connector is revealed. This high-speed charging and data transfer feature is also featured in Nexus 5, per Pocket-lint.
According to Android Central, what seems to be the obvious difference between the two phones is the overall back design. The LG Nexus 5 has a matte finish while the rumored Huawei Nexus "looks like a cross between a [Huawei] P8 and an Ascend Mate 7." Pocket-lint states that the Huawei Nexus looks like it has a plastic rear.
Besides this, Android Central notes that the phones also differ in camera sensor size and flash placement.
However, techies must still wait until Nexus' annual announcement in October to confirm these rumors.
