The Nokia Lumia 920 has launched exclusively for AT&T, and as is tradition when a new device is released, a drop test occurs.
The folks from PhoneBuff conducted the test and from various heights that have been traditional to fall - from hip level, chest level, and head level. According to PhoneBuff's David Rahimi, "This is meant to emulate what would most likely happen in real life if you were to accidentally drop your 920."
So how did it fare?
When dropping from the hip, the Lumia 920 landed on its back. Due to landing on its back, there were a couple "scuff marks" along the top on the device but the bottom left corner experienced chipping. The touchscreen still function properly and no scratches were seen on the screen.
To drop it at chest level, a baby will assist, which should be highlighted as many reviewers previously criticized the phone as too heavy and big.
When the phone dropped, it landed with the screen colliding with the ground. The touchscreen and device was still functioning but the bottom right side of the Lumia 920 suffered some chipping.
For the final test, it will be dropped from head level. The Lumia 920 drop on its sides multiple times but the screen is still functioning. The side of the Lumia 920 was visible but could be unnoticed if the black version was purchased.
“Overall, I have to say that I am really impressed with how the Lumia 920 did in the drop test. I had a feeling it was going to be pretty solid, but didn’t expect it to do this well. And because it survived with just a few scratches, I’m going to see just how much abuse the phone can take before it cracks (literally).”
The Lumia 920 features include a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ Display with 1,280x768 pixel resolution with 332 pixels per inch, internal storage of only 32GB with 1GB of RAM, 2,000 mAh, Near Field Communication (NFC), the Snapdragon S4 processor, and runs on the new Windows Phone 8 operating system.
