Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn has managed to overcome the stigma that has followed it from the original Final Fantasy 14 and its own shaky launch to deliver a solid MMO that players and critics have enjoyed. Now, Square Enix has revealed details to IGN about where the game is heading now that it has established itself and ironed out the wrinkles that were exposed at launch.
The Crystal Tower was promised to be one of the two end game raid dungeons of the game at launch, but the dungeon will only become available with the 2.1 patch release. This dungeon will be a throwback to Final Fantasy 3 and could contain some bosses from that game. This dungeon will challenge players, and is meant to be tackled by 24 players in three teams of eight. Each team will enter at a different point of the Crystal Tower, and teams can help each other access different parts of the dungeon.
Also coming with the 2.1 update will be player housing, though the feature will only be available for free companies only. Three different size houses will be available. The feature will eventually include decorations, raising chocobos and crafting and leveling buffs. In addition, it is expected that at some point large-scale crafting workspaces will be implemented that allow multiple users to work together to craft items.
2.1 will have an additional Primal battle for players to attempt. Good King Moogle Mog XII will be available to take on for teams of eight who have reached level 50. It is also expected that a new difficulty setting for the three existing Primal battles will be made available.
PvP will be coming to the game sometime soon, though Square Enix has not announced when. What is known about the mode is that existing and matched groups of four or eight will battle it out with a variety of rewards given to teams that excel as this mode. Special gear will be available for the mode, and unique rewards will be given in the mode.
Square Enix is also looking forward to expand the platforms the game will appear on. According to the company, players will be able to trade in the PlayStation 3 version of the game for the PlayStation 4 when it is released for free. This is huge news and could allow the game to continue its success on consoles even after the current generation is replaced by the next gen.
