Following Sony's recent release of the Xperia M in the U.S. at a price of $249, a new photo leaked of the recently announced Sony Xperia Z1 showing that the device may have a mini version in the works,.

The Xperia Z1 Mini first showed up on the website Digi-wo - translated by the Xperia Blog - which shows off a purple and black Xperia Z1 (former known as the Honami) next to a smaller purple version of the device. The leak also has the alleged specs for the Z1 mini, which will have a 4.3-inch display capable of 720p resolution. This would put the Xperia Z1 Mini just short of reaching the display size of the Motorola Moto X. The Xperia Z1 Mini will have a Snapdragon 800 chipset powering the device, with 2GB of RAM according to the specs released with the photo. The smaller version of the Xperia Z1 will have 8GB of internal memory. However, despite the smaller size of the Xperia Z1 Mini, the device will carry over the biggest feature of the Z1: the 20.7 Megapixel camera. This means that those looking for a more compact version of the Xperia Z1 and its camera will be able to potentially purchase this mini version of the phone. The leak has the release of the Xperia Z1 Mini coming at CES 2014. It will be interesting to see if this leak is accurate and if Sony is planning to release a mini version of a phone that is not even available yet.

Meanwhile, Sony has quietly released the Xperia M in the U.S., a mid range smartphone previously only available in European and Asian markets. The Xperia M is available on Sony's official webstore as well as on Newegg. Users can buy the device for $249, making it a cheaper alternative to many of the smartphones available on the market. The display is the same size as the alleged Xperia Z1 Mini at 4-inches, with Adreno 305 graphics, a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The Xperia M has a 5 megapixel rear camera, with 4GB of internal memory for storing photos and a microSD card slot for further memory expansion.
