Gamescom is shaping to be one of the most exciting events of the year, with Sony and Microsoft having presentations during the event, which runs in August 21-25 in Cologne, Germany. In addition, several studios will be at the event, including Bethesda and Blizzard. Now, Square Enix has revealed that they will be at the event, and will have several titles available, including several Final Fantasy titles. Gamespot has the full list of games that Square Enix will have at Gamescom.
One of the biggest titles that Square Enix will have at the event is Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. The game will launch soon after the event, on August 27, on the PC and PlayStation 3. The game has gotten an extensive makeover since being taken offline after the game released and was a buggy, broken mess. It looks as though the game is now on track and will be much better than when it launches, and will finally hit the PlayStation 3 after significant delay. It will be interesting to see how fans of the game take to the new version of the game, and how the cross-platform play will affect that popularity,
Another upcoming title from Square Enix is Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13. The third and final game in the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy will be out very late in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360's life, coming out on February 11, 2014. The game will hopefully draw the story of the previous games to a well received conclusion, and could be the last great RPG available exclusively for the current generation of consoles. In any case, some fans may be excited to preorder the game and unlock the Cloud Strife costume for use in the game.
Final Fantasy 10/10-2 HD will also be at Gamescom, and it will be interesting to see if the game gets a release date at the event. Perhaps we may even see this new ending that has been added to the series.
However, the two biggest games that fans are clamoring for, Final Fantasy 15 and Kingdom Hearts 3, have not been confirmed as being at Gamescom. These two games represent Square Enix's best chance to reverse the rather mediocre streak they have had on the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360, and with these next-gen games could once again obtain that legendary status that the developer has had in the past. However, it looks as though fans will have to wait to get more information about the games.
