Final Fantasy 15 is a game many gamers thought they would never be able to play, when it was known as Final Fantasy Versus 13. The action-heavy RPG has remained in development hell for a long time, but now looks to finally see the light of day on next generation consoles.
The trailer for the game was quite impressive, showing off the epic graphics and battles we can expect from the game. Very little is known about the game's story, except for this blurb released to IGN:
"The armed forces of Niflheim launch a devastating assault upon the Kingdom of Lucis, casting Crown Prince Noctis and his comrades out of their homes and into the fray. The engaging tale to follow draws audiences into an awe-inspiring world steeped in the rich storytelling traditions of Square Enix's renowned First Production Development team."
Combat appears to be real time, and the trailer makes it seems as though the game has more of an action game feel to it. However, the trailer did not show regular elements of gameplay, such as health bars and command lists, so it could be that the game has more RPG in it than the trailer lets on.
The game was announced during Sony's E3 press conference, but according to Kotaku the game will also be available on the Xbox One. Kotaku is also reporting that the game is not listed on the expected games of the current financial year for Square Enix. This means that the game will most likely be out after March 31, 2014.
Final Fantasy 15 originally was shown in conjunction with Final Fantasy 13 during the 2006 E3. The game faced numerous delays, and Square Enix would not give updates on the game, besides to say that the game was not cancelled. Now rebranded and energized, Final Fantasy 15 looks like it could be one of the first hit RPG's of the next generation of consoles.
