The Women's singles quarterfinal is underway on the manicured lawns of All England Club, and surprisingly, there's no Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, or Serena Williams to cheer for.
The eighth day of competition Tuesday at Wimbledon will feature quarterfinal matches between a collection of gritty veterans and up-and-coming stars.
Sabine Lisicki, who crashed Serena's Grand Slam hope with a stunning three set victory, becomes the first woman to book a spot in the semifinal round in this year's tourney following a straight set win over Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-3, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Poland's Agnieszka Radwańska and China's Li Na are engaged in a hotly contested duel on Center Court. Radwanksa looks for her second straight semifinal appearance at Wimbledon while Li guns to become the first Asian semifinalist in the grass court Grand Slam tourney.
Of course, 2011 Wimbledon Open champion Petra Kvitova will also try to advance to the semifinal round against Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens.
Flipkens reached the quarterfinals after her 7-6, 6-3 win over Flavia Pennetta while Kvitova demolished Spain's Carla Suárez Navarro 7-6, 6-3. The winner of the match will take on the victor of another interesting quarterfinal duel between American tennis sensation Sloane Stephens and France's Marion Bartoli.
The 20-year old Stephens is aiming to reach his second Grand Slam semifinal appearance this year after cruising to the semis of the Australian Open in June. Meanwhile, Bartoli is gunning for her first Wimbledon semis since she reached the finals in 2007.
